In the Jewish mystical tradition, love and fear are described as two wings, both of which are required for spiritual connection to the Other and to the Divine. This workshop draws on Jewish mystical teachings about the dual nature of love and fear as composite energies. We will explore how fear and awe are not contrary to intimacy, closeness and compassion, but can promote and support it. We will explore the concepts of love and fear as they appear in the Jewish mystical tradition alongside the analogous concepts of compassionate devotion and boundaried respect. These themes will be explored as a toolkit for unravelling common challenges in power exchange, including struggles with pacing and exuberance, the double giver scenario, approaching proactive and anticipatory service and balancing intense experiences and the ordinary across long-term dynamics.
